Xaviera Simmons works in a wide range of media, including photography, performance, installation, sculpture, and sound. Simmons received her BFA in Photography from Bard College and participated in the studio program of the Whitney ISP. She also attended the actor training conservatory of The Maggie Flanigan Studio. Simmons has participated in exhibitions at MoMA/P.S.1, The Studio Museum in Harlem, Zacheta National Art Gallery, The Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum, and The Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, among many others. She is the recipient of the Emergency Grant from the Foundation for Contemporary Arts in New York; the Art Matters Fellowship; the Driskell Prize from the High Museum Atlanta; and and In the Public Realm commission from The Public Art Fund.
